Founder’s Note

Dear Educators, Parents, Leaders & Friends,

Urgent Action Needed Now: Arctic Refuge

The Trump Administration is determined to open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for oil drilling. January 6, 2021 is set as the date for the sale of leasing rights to oil companies.

The Gwich’in people have lived in harmony for 30,000 years with the land, the four-legged creatures and winged creatures.

Drilling means the killing of numerous species including polar bears and the Porcupine Caribou Herd–the largest migrating herd on Mother Earth, which make up 80% of the Gwich’in diet.

We cannot allow the last wild & full ecosystem in North America and the Gwich’in culture–which predates the U.S. by 29,200 years–be destroyed for 6 months of oil.
Please—act now with this day-by-day, easy-to-follow, easy-to-do action plan:

Norma Kassi and Faith Gemmell and 300 youth from 32 countries at a youth-led press conference to protest Colorado Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell’s switching his vote from protecting to drilling in the Refuge. That press conference was at the Global Youth Environmental Summit in 1995 that brothers and teachers, Chris & Joe Fontana co-organized behind 30 high school youth organizers.
